How Many Days is a Sikh Wedding?

How long is a Sikh wedding?

Froyle Park: A Luxury Dry Hire Venue for Sikh Wedding Celebrations

Sikh weddings and pre-wedding ceremonies are much more than just a day, but instead are a series of heartfelt, cultural celebrations filled with meaning, family and joy. At Froyle Park, we specialise in hosting Sikh wedding receptions that honour tradition while offering modern luxury – it’s the perfect setting for an unforgettable celebration after your Anand Karaj has taken place at a Gurdwara.

But just how long is a Sikh wedding typically last in total?

The answer is that it depends – but most Sikh weddings will last from 3 to 5 days, including pre-wedding rituals, the Anand Karaj, and an unforgettable reception (this is the part where Froyle Park can help).

Here’s a breakdown of the days that can make up in a Sikh wedding

Day 1–2: Pre-Wedding Celebrations

Sikh weddings often begin with pre-wedding events such as:

• Roka & Chunni Ceremony
• Maiyan & Mehndi
• Jaggo Night: A vibrant evening of dancing and music

Day 3: The Anand Karaj

The sacred Sikh wedding ceremony, known as the Anand Karaj, is traditionally held at a Gurdwara. Many of our couples marry at Southall, Slough, Hounslow, or Southampton Gurdwaras before coming at Froyle Park for their wedding reception.

Here is a useful breakdown of Gurdwaras that are popular with Froyle Park couples for their Anand Karaj:

1. Guru Nanak Gurdwara Camberley
📍 276 London Road, Camberley, GU15 3JP
⏱️ ~35 minutes by car
🕌 A newly opened Gurdwara and the first of its kind in Surrey. A peaceful setting for Anand Karaj ceremonies, conveniently close to Froyle Park for seamless same-day receptions.

2. Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha Southall
📍 Havelock Road, Southall, UB2 4NP

🕌 One of the largest and most well-known Gurdwaras in the UK. Very popular for large Anand Karaj ceremonies.

3. Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha Slough
📍 Alice Way, Slough, SL1 2QX

🕌 A well-established Gurdwara for weddings in Berkshire. Frequently chosen for its facilities and central location.

4. Gurdwara Guru Maneyo Granth, Southampton
📍 Radcliffe Road, Southampton, SO14 0PN
⏱️ ~55 minutes by car
🕌 Often chosen by families on the South Coast – convenient for Hampshire-based weddings.

5. Gurdwara Singh Sabha, Hounslow
📍 Sutton Lane, Hounslow, TW3 4LT
⏱️ ~55 minutes by car
🕌 Popular with West London Sikh families and offers wedding services in a modern setting.

6. Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha, Reading
📍 London Road, Reading, RG1 3PA
⏱️ ~50 minutes by car
🕌 Another good option for Berkshire and West London families. Not far from the M4 corridor.

How Long is an Anand Karaj Ceremony?

The Anand Karaj, meaning “blissful union”, is at the spiritual heart of a Sikh wedding. The ceremony will be typically hosted in a Gurdwara. The Anand Karaj ceremony duration is  about 1 to 2 hours, but it will be dependent on the family’s customs and whether additional prayers or Kirtan (hymn singing) are included. The core of the Anand Karaj involves the couple walking around the Guru Granth Sahib (the Sikh holy scripture) four times.

Most Anand Karaj ceremonies are held in the morning or early afternoon. This gives enough time a wedding reception the same or day after. At Froyle Park, couples often arrive directly from the Gurdwara to host an elegant drinks reception, followed by their evening celebration – blending tradition with festivity into one unforgettable and seamless day.
