Frequently Asked Questions

Most Hindu wedding ceremonies last 60 to 90 minutes. Some finish in 45 minutes with a shorter set of rites. A full ceremony with extra rituals can run close to two hours.

Pheras are a vital Hindu wedding ceremony where the couple walks around a sacred fire (Agni) four or seven times to seal their union. Each circle, or Phera, represents a specific vow and promise, focusing on key life goals like duty, prosperity, and love. It signifies the beginning of their life together and is considered the culmination of the wedding.

The Pheras often take 15 to 40 minutes.

A Gujarati wedding ceremony often lasts 60 to 120 minutes. Many include a short welcome, key rituals, then the main rounds. A longer ceremony includes extra prayers and family blessings.

A Puja is a sacred, ritualistic worship ceremony performed to invoke divine blessings, ensure an obstacle-free celebration, and sanctify the union of the couple. It involves prayers and offerings – such as flowers, incense, light, and food – to deities.
Pujas are integral to the wedding, usually taking place before or during the ceremony to set an auspicious tone, purify the environment, and mark the transition into married life.

A small puja often lasts 30 to 60 minutes. A larger puja with a havan can run 90 minutes to three hours. Your priest usually sets a fixed start time and a clear end point.

Wear formal evening clothes with colour and texture. A suit works well for men, and a long dress or Indian outfit works well for women. Bring a light layer for late-night photos outside.

Wear modest formal clothes with covered shoulders and legs. Choose simple fabrics and avoid heavy leather accessories for temple settings. Many guests skip alcohol at Jain events, so keep the look respectful.

A Vedic wedding follows Hindu scriptures and ritual tradition from the Vedas. It often includes a fire ceremony, mantras, offerings, and the main rounds. Priests tailor the rite to region, language, and family customs.

Hindus often marry under a mandap at a temple, at home, or at a venue set up for the rituals. In the UK, couples often hold the religious ceremony at a venue, then complete legal registration through a civil ceremony. Families plan the location around guest travel and priest availability.
