Frequently Asked Questions for Asian Weddings

Most Indian weddings run 2 to 4 days. Families often hold a mehndi, a sangeet, the main ceremony, then a reception. A one-day version still runs 8 to 12 hours, from arrivals to the last dance.

At Froyle Park, your venue hire starts from midday and finishes at 11pm on Sundays or 11:30pm Monday-Saturday. We are sometimes able to offer early starts at an additonal fee – enquire with the team for more information!

A baraat is the groom’s arrival procession, common in many North Indian and Pakistani weddings. Family and friends dance alongside music and Dhol drums. The group escorts the groom to the venue entrance, then the next ritual begins.

This depends entirely on where the procession starts and ends. Some larger Baraats in India involving street processions may take up to an hour!

At Froyle Park, the procession is much shorter with a Baraat typically taking 5-10 minutes.

A mehndi event often lasts 3 to 6 hours. The henna application can take 2 to 4 hours for the bride. Guests often come and go, with food and music running the full time.

A sangeet often lasts 3 to 5 hours. Performances often run for 60 to 120 minutes inside that window. Many families start with dinner, then move into songs and dancing.

The Roka ceremony is a significant, intimate Punjabi and North Indian pre-wedding ritual marking the official union of two families and the couple’s commitment. It signifies that the bride and groom are “off the market,” often involving the exchange of gifts, sweets, and blessings without exchanging rings.

A roka often lasts 30 to 90 minutes. The formal part can finish in 15 to 30 minutes. Families then stay for tea, sweets, photos, and gifts.

Pick formal clothing with modest coverage and rich colours. Men often wear a suit, sherwani, or kurta set, depending on the event. Women often wear a saree, lehenga, or long dress with sleeves.

Go formal and photo-ready. Men often wear a suit, bandhgala, or sherwani. Women often wear a lehenga, saree, or a long embellished dress, with comfortable shoes for dancing.

Wear something you can dance in, with a polished look. A suit works, and a kurta with a waistcoat works too. Choose shoes with grip, since dance floors get busy.

Desi refers to people and culture from South Asia, mainly India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. A desi wedding usually includes several events across multiple days. You can expect music nights, family rituals, and a large reception.

Wear smart formal clothing with modest coverage. Men often wear a suit, and women often wear a saree or a long dress. Avoid very revealing outfits, and choose colours that suit daylight photos.

Wear festive clothes that still feel comfortable. A kurta set works well for men. Women often wear a simple salwar kameez or long dress, since dholki nights involve lots of sitting and singing.

Wear formal clothes and avoid anything too casual. A suit works well for men, and a long dress works well for women. If you choose Indian clothing, pick a good fit and keep jewellery simple.

Wear something you can dance in, with a polished look. A suit works, and a kurta with a waistcoat works too. Choose shoes with grip, since dance floors get busy.

Traditions vary by community, faith, and family. Many families share costs across both sides, with parents contributing large amounts and the couple covering some supplier bills. Some families split by event, with one side hosting a ceremony and the other hosting a reception.
